What is a CPC? What is CPC on Mercedes?
The CPC Module, also known as the Central Powertrain Computer, was introduced as early as 2015 in the Mercedes-Benz turbo vehicles. Though added to these vehicles’ at an early date, Mercedes-Benz was starting to set the vehicles up for future limitations. In the 2019+ Mercedes-Benz (which includes pre-2019 E-Class) line-up, the CPC started to really shine as it limited not only vehicle speed, but also horsepower, torque, exhaust valves, HUD unit and in some vehicle’s even boost. Though the ECU can be “tuned” and enhanced, setting the ECU’s parameters to even max would not allow the engine to perform as the ECU was told, the CPC overrides the ECU giving the restrictions it was told to be given by the manufacturer.
What does a CPC do? How does this effect aftermarket tuning the factory ECU?
This starts to make things a little trickier for the aftermarket tuning shops. These limitations and additional equipment added to the vehicles, in this case the CPC, are “new technology” in which standard generic tooling is not available making the ability to tune these vehicles properly and hit these high gains we are use to seeing in the past, difficult to say the least. Fortunately, AMR Performance, with our in-house engineers, are able to research and develop these “answers” in-house.
Can you just reprogram the one that is in the car?
Unfortunately, you can not. Reason for this is because Mercedes-Benz has what is called “One-Time-Programming” sector also known as OTP zone. This area is a one-time program area which CAN NOT be programmed over or re-written. This area is equipped with coding that checks the bootloader, application and calibration section of the CPC to prevent against tampering. If they all do not match to the required calculation, the vehicle will not operate. Anyone who tells you different, is just trying to selling you a myth. The most they will be able to do is change small variant coding changes (nothing to do with power or limiters) using Mercedes-Benz cloned tools that have ZERO effect to power, torque, boost, limiters, etc… whereas a full replacement from us will allow your vehicle to be fully unlocked to gain all benefits that once was not achievable.
For this unprogrammable reason, we start off with a new blank CPC module. This gives us the ability to write our own bootloader, application and calibration section. Giving us a blank canvas and allowing us a “no limit” style programming which our AMR Performance engineers love to do!

Started out small with stage 1, but couldn’t resist upgrading to stage 2 and replacing CPC to really achieve the full potential. Car is a completely different machine, louder and faster then I could image. CPC swap can be DIY, but expect tight spaces.

I had been told, from another tuning company, that the CPC upgrade did not work with my E450. There were some initial minor issues. However, AMR has the absolute best customer support. They worked tirelessly, even after business hours, to find and resolve the issues. The tuned CPC brings the ECU and TCU tunes together for the complete package. I did ecu tune with AMR last year for my 19 e63s wagon. This year I want to add cpc tune. Talked with Chris Chan. I received my cpc in 3 days and AMR hq helped me to program the cpc ! The best customer service I ever had !
If you have a w213 e63s adding a cpc is a must in my opinion. It’s day and night difference. OEM cpc removal and install is not that hard definitely can DIY.
I can noticed after cpc tune cold start is louder than before and when you driving less throttle is needed cause the car is way more responds and faster than only ecu tune.

Amr have the best community service and performance that I have seen from any other tuner. To start, their sales rep Chris helped inform me about everything they do and what sets them apart from other tuners. Before I had AMR I was tuned by DME which is known to be the fastest. I was constantly loosing races to people I should have beaten, the power would die off over 100, my car was running poorly and I felt that my car had way more potential. When I flashed my AMR tune everything was way better. I was gapping people that would normally gap me and after every shift you could feel the car just keep pulling like a mad bull on crack. Secondly on the community service side they have been nothing but helpful. My ecu was missing codes from my DME tune and AMR focused all of their time on re writing my ecu so I would be able to flash their tune. Lastly most tuners copy the same file onto every ecu which means that you will have to ship your ecu in with the risk of loosing it. I have learned that AMR has engineers that write your own tune tailored to your own car so I was able to flash it at my house. They are really the best out there.

AMR performance is the best tuner shop around and I highly recommend them. I have a mercedes w213 e63s wagon and ordered the ECU tune, TCU software update and the CPC module and it’s like a new car. Nothing on the street is gonna be able to keep up with me it’s so absolutely insanely fast it’s unbelievable. Matt and the rest of the team were extremely helpful and so easy to deal with I couldn’t have asked for more. I own 3 amg mercedes and have dealt with many other performance shops in the past before I found AMR and there is no comparison.
